Jacquees Houston Concert reviews
Paul McCartney is Still Going Strong
Starting with "Magical Mystery Tour" and ending with the same energy some 37 songs later with "The End", he took us through his long and wonderful career while singing the soundtrack of our lives. Despite his 70 years, he sang with the same energy that he had while Linda was touring with him. This was my fifth Paul concert and it may have been his best. He played many songs that have become standards of his concerts and broke out some new additions like "I'm Looking Through You" and "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da".
Paul never took a break and neither did the audience. The crowd, largely a bunch of gray hairs, showed their appreciation by cheering and shouting from start to finish. At the end of the song, he stood up from his piano, thanked the crowd, and was visibly emotional wiping tears from his face. The most touching moment was Paul singing "The Long and Winding Road" as scenes from the Arizona desert played on the backdrop replaying his days with Linda in the desert. There were many poignant moments including tributes to deceased band mates John and Paul with a mention of Jimi Hendrix.
His band are the perfect accompaniment for Sir Paul with raucous guitar and steady, pulsing drum they kept pace and seemed to really enjoy themselves. But he could still rock. His excitement jamming on guitar during "Helter Skelter" gives us fans hope that he has another great rock album left in him. The excitement, energy, and pyrotechnics during "Live and Let Die" left the audience gobsmacked and seemed to even surprise Sir Paul.
While the pre-concert traffic was a mess with Dynamo and Rockets games going on nearby, the atmosphere inside Minute Maid was pleasant. Our seats on the floor were great and the acoustics were excellent.
It was one of those events where you find yourself saying, "I watching Paul effin Jacquees in concert! The, not a, true living rock legend of today." and just take in the moment. I attended the concert with my wife and youngest daughter. It will be one of the most memorable events for the rest of our lives.
